Crew of an upcoming film M.G.R. has shot recently the all-important sequence in the late and legendary MGR’s life of him getting shot at by his co-star M.R. Radha in 1967.
A. Balakrishnan, who made Kamaraj in 2004, has taken up the onerous responsibility of making a biopic on MGR, easily the most popular political leader in the history of Tamil Nadu. The film is based on actual incidents which occurred in the life of MGR, looked upto by millions and recalled by crores even today i.e. more than 30 years after his demise.
“I’m making a biopic on MGR which won’t have any controversial sequences but would explain how MGR got his ‘Makkal Thilagam’ title. Recently, we shot the sequence of MR Radha shooting MGR at the latter’s residence. Sathish plays MGR while Balasingh plays MR Radha. Mollywood’s Raghu, Vaiyapuri, Y.Gee. Mahendra and Ritywika are part of the cast while hunt is on to select artistes to play Annathurai, M.N. Nambiar, Jayalalithaa, Karunanidhi, etc.
“We haven’t sensationalized the script and are narrating MGR’s tale as it occurred. I’m sure the Govt. of Tamil Nadu would respond positively to our request for financial assistance to make the film.
We are also planning to request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release the film’s teaser in a fortnight’s time,” informs Balakrishnan, who is the producer-director of the film.’’
