As the D-Day of ‘22nd March’ – fixed by the Election Commission of India to decide as to which of factions of AIADMK led by former chief-minister O. Panneerselvam and ‘jailbird’ Sasikala is genuine – is less than 24 hours away, the OPS faction is confident that it would be allotted the party’s famed ‘Two-Leaves’ symbol.

OPS also feels that all those from the other faction (including Edapadi Palanichamy) would switch sides and join his faction once the Election Commission’s decision favoured his faction. As reported earlier, the Election Commission of India has instructed the factions’ representative to be present before it on Wednesday to take a final decision on who would get the party’s famed ‘Two-Leaves’ election symbol.

It was OPS who first knocked at EC’s doors stating that his faction was the original one and that Sasikala had been ‘wrongly’ elected against the party’s rules in force whereby the general secretary can only by elected by voting of party cadres. After OPS’ petition, EC served notices to jailbird Sasikala right at her prison cell asking her to explain her election as general secretary. She responded after a huge goof-up.

Speaking amid his supporters yesterday, OPS exuded confidence that his faction would get a ‘favourable’ verdict on 22nd March. “Get ready for a grand celebration; we shall celebrate our victory by bursting crackers at AIADMK’s headquarters in Chennai. I’m sure all those in the opposite faction including chief-minister Edapadi Palanichamy would switch sides and align with us after which Sasikala and Dinakaran’s ‘arrogant activities’ would come to an end,” he told party cadres.
