Actress Manisha Yadav Says 'i Regret Doing An Item Number In Chennai 28 Ii'

Manisha Yadav was on a brief hiatus after she got hitched last year. Now, the actress is excited about the release of her upcoming Tamil film, Oru Kuppa Kadhai, which was recently screened at Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) and won the hearts of the audience and critics alike. “I was stunned by the crowd’s response after the film’s screening. The audience appreciated my role, too,” says Manisha Yadav, who believes that this film will open doors for projects that will give her scope to perform.

“Oru Kuppa Kadhai is a beautiful love story, that connects well with the life of many. It’s about how an 18-year-old girl from Valparai marries a rag picker in Chennai. Choreographer Dinesh makes his acting debut with this film, which is all about the struggles he overcomes in his life, as he is not happy with his profession,” says the actress.

Talking about her role, she says, “We shot in a slum near the Marina beach for almost 25 days. It was a great experience as I witnessed the life of the people living in the neighbourhood. The way they manage to carry a smile on their faces despite facing hardship without basic amenities, was phenomenal. When their neighbourhood was flooded, they helped each other to fight the floods and drain it out of their slum. However, they requested to cancel the shoot for a couple of days and warned us of dengue and other water-bourne diseases.”

Manisha Yadav also tells us that marriage wasn’t the only reason for her to go on a break from the industry. “My husband doesn’t want me to stop signing projects. In fact, he gets excited when I head for shoots. I took a break just because I didn’t land projects that has had the scope to perform,” she remarks.

Quickly she added, “My role in Chennai 600028 II was a big let-down, and I regret being part of it. I never thought, the song Soppana Sundari will end up being an item number. I hardly had any role in the film. It wasn’t shot the way people explained it to me - I feel betrayed. My other film Trisha Illana Nayanthara was a mistake as well. However, I am sure the projects I choose from now will be different from my previous films. Glamour is necessary only if the script requires it,” she finishes.
