MPs belonging to the OPS-led faction of the AIADMK met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday in the national capital and requested him to provide round-the-clock security-cover to its leader and former chief-minister O. Panneerselvam and to former Minister and R.K. Nagar candidate Madhusudanan.
It may be recalled that Kalairajan, a former MLA belonging to faction led by ‘jailbird’ Sasikala, had earlier threatened to ‘chop off’ OPS’ hands if he attempted to enter the party headquarters. OPS’ convoy of vehicles also came under stone-pelting during his recent visit to Theni District. Threats have also been meted out to Madhusudanan over phone for contesting from R.K. Nagar.
Meanwhile, 11 MPs of OPS faction led by Dr. Maitreyan met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at his office and explained to the Minister the various threats faced by OPS as well as Madhusudanan, a senior leader of the faction led by OPS.
The delegation urged the Minister to arrange for round-the-clock security cover by Central forces for the duo of OPS and Madhusudanan. The Minister assured them that their request would be given due consideration and acted upon.
Gopalakrishnan, an MP supporting OPS, didn’t take part in yesterday’s meeting as he wasn’t feeling well.
